風呂敷（ふろしき）は、物を包み持ち運んだり収納したりするための正方形に近い形の布です。入浴のとき、衣類を脱いで包んだり、衣類を着る際に床に敷いたりした布。古くは正倉院に残っているものもあり、中世には衣包・平包の名がみられる。江戸前期あたり、銭湯風呂の発達に伴って、風呂敷の名が一般的になったと言われています。（Furoshiki is a square-shaped cloth that is used to wrap, carry, and store things. A cloth used to wrap clothes when taking a bath, or spread on the floor when wearing clothes. Some of them have been preserved in the Shosoin repository in the old days, and the names of kinpo and flat envelopes can be seen in the Middle Ages. 風呂敷は「包む」だけでなく、さらに使わないときは小さく畳め、軽くて持ち運びにも邪魔にならないなどの点から、エコバックや防災時のアイテムとしても見直されてきています。Furoshiki can be wrapped freely without being constrained by the size or shape of the object to be wrapped.
